CHURCH RAMBLE

On Saturday 9th August a group of 12 members of St. Mark's met outside the church at Barnack
for a two hour ramble. As we walked through and admired the peaceful village of lovely honey-coloured buildings, our leader pointed out a dovecote and the cottage where the local artist Wilfrid Wood lived from 1938 - 1976.The ramble was very ably led by church member David Bourne, who took us via a circular route that found us wandering through fields, along country roads and along what used to be a railway line. The pace set by our leader was not too strenuous, included only one stile to climb over, and afforded time for conversation and to appreciate the beautiful countryside too. David had told us that Red Kites were in the area and that we
might see one and we did catch a
fleeting glimpse of one flying over a field. That was
the only sight we had of it though as it flew towards
some trees.Despite August being quite a wet month so far, we were fortunate with the weather too. We had a light shower during the walk, but heavy rain held
off until those who were able to stay
were snugly ensconced for a welcome pub lunch!
